Hi, I’m Joan - a social media fanatic with over five years’ experience working as a Social Media Manager! I specialise in devising and implementing creatively-led, community-centric social media strategies and account management.

​

Over the span of my career, I’ve worked in a wide range of industries - think Health and Wellness, Lifestyle, Tech, Beauty and many more - developing strategies to spearhead growth, generate leads and foster an engaged community space.

I started my journey as a Social Media Manager working in a studio where I practised yoga.
It was an amazing time. Not only was I surrounded by like-minded people doing an activity we all loved - I was learning about actively creating community both online and in-person.
From creating dynamic content that drove engagement, to using social media to generate sign-ups for Open Days and Retreats, I began to understand how effective social media really was as a marketing tool.
While the landscape has changed significantly since then, my belief in the power of social media drives me to stay up-to-date with the latest changes and trends (even when Adam Mosseri’s vague instagram updates make me want to pull my hair out!), while keeping an eye out for the next big thing!

There are so many crucial skills necessary for running social accounts of any size, but below is my starter-kit for anyone hoping to be an effective Social Media Manager:

 

In order to make the social media management experience more seamless, I like to use a range of tools to help keep the house in order. To name a few:

  • A CMS - a key ingredient to getting multiple pieces of content out a day, gathering analytics and (Sprout Social, CloudCampaign, Hootsuite, Buffer, Later etc.)

  • Google analytics - yes, please! I rely on google to help me see how exactly my work on socials has translated to the rest of the business

  • SEMRush - it’s a lot easier when you can do the bulk of your social media listening on a simple, accessible platform that’s tailored to you

  • Monday - a super important tool for managing projects with a large team, and even more-so when external teams or stakeholders are involved

  • Canva - there’s really nothing better when it comes to creating social media assets, getting inspiration and finding tips and tricks for various issues

  • Adobe suite - it speaks for itself really! I predominantly use Premiere Pro, Lightroom and Photoshop

  • Trello - a simplified way of keeping up-to-date with my team’s tasks.

In this ever-changing industry, it's essential to be driven! My passion for social media and creating community is what has paved the way for my successes.

Social media isn’t just here for the purpose of generating sales (although it can and should be used this way)- it’s a way to connect with people; to find or foster a community and make positive changes to the world.

 

As I moved through different industries and began leading larger teams, I discovered my passion for creating positive workplace environments and encouraging the next generation of social media marketers. This has helped me to produce better work and lead teams more effectively and efficiently - thereby getting better results. It’s a joy to work in such a creative space - and although it still has its challenges, social media is one of the most essential tools that you can leverage as a business or a personal brand to create positive impact.
